The numbers just don't work in favor of the move. Although the initial gross pay would have been more than what I am currently making, three items made that difference disappear quickly. Higher state income tax in NC, higher employee contributions towards health care, and higher employee contributions towards pension completely consumed what initially appeared to be a nice raise. I spent most of the morning on various websites comparing the differences between the two employee benefit packages, and two State taxing policies.
Add in the cost of moving ourselves (no relocation assistance), my wife's loss of employment until she finds another job, higher probable mortgage cost, the cost of redecorating a new home to our tastes, and the move would be a money loser.
Some costs would be lower, property taxes and vehicle licensing among them, but there is little to no financial incentive to compensate for the big unknowns. If I was faced with loss of my present job I would jump ship in a heart beat, but the financial analysis shows us to be better where we are.
Atleast I know where the cow pies are in this pasture.
Thanks again for your comments and suggestions.
