Luckily came to your senses at the end of the rant.

To OKSaabs, in smaller towns there might very well be very skilled mechanics that are able to tackle many different car brands because they have to.

In my complex here with many shops, it is one guy (actually where I first opened up my shop) and he works on many different car brands from domestic to imports.
He is extremely skilled in mechanical works and the only time when he have problems is when those strange electrical gremlins show up where, and if you had the proper factory scan tool, it might take you minutes to find but when doing it the old fashioned way it might take you several hours of trace each wire.

Some or another way though, he always figures it out and the downside of it as I see it is that he will never get rich monetary wise on his way of working since he is not charging enough for the work he does.
