Yes, have one automatic air vent in attic Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Tue, 13 Nov 2007 08:58:14 In Reply to: Do you have any automatic air vents?, MI-Roger [Profile/Gallery] , Tue, 13 Nov 2007 06:51:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Thanks for your input, I do have one automatic air vent in the attic at what I assume is the highest point (although things can change over 107 years) - guess I need to go up there with a level to measure. This device was replaced when I bought the house about six years ago, but it could have gotten crusted up since then - the old one didn't "shake" anymore. I took this vent device out last year, shook it to verify that things were still loose, but I'll try again. And yes, the radiator in question is on a circuit that starts about 10 feet away from this thing, so it may be at or near the "high end". One puzzling contradiction though is that when I bleed the dead radiator (bleed screw at the top) for a while, hot water will come out of it after about two pails of water are released.
Assume my trip to the attic doesn't solve the problem, how does one check for internal scale other than disconnecting the radiator and poking around in the bottom (or is this the way to check)?
