Long Overdue Solution Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Fri, 19 Jun 2020 12:54:54 In Reply to: OT: Gravity-fed Hot Water Heating, dead radiator, Bill Homer [Profile/Gallery] , Mon, 12 Nov 2007 12:24:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Well, we all had some extra time this winter, and another radiator stopped working, so I solved this problem. Just ran into my 13-year-old post while searching for something else, so here's the solution.
I bought a new automatic air bleeder valve, manually bled the system, then installed the valve at the top of the system in the attic - all radiators working! But only for about a week, then they started falling off one-by-one. I also noticed that the system pressure on the gauge on the boiler was dropping below the 20 psi that I had put the system at by manually adding additional water. There is a pressure control/anti-backflow valve attached to the cold water feed, and it has a fine mesh screen to keep gunk out of the valve. Removed and cleaned the screen, repressurized the system, and it was fine (all radiators working) for months!
Since we were indoors almost all the time, it was nice to have a cozy house for the latter part of the winter.
