OT: Looking for help evaluating a compensation package Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 17 Jan 2008 11:25:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Well, this old dog may have finally caught the car. I interviewed for a job in Raleigh, NC on Monday and received an offer of employment today. My wife and I had expected an offer that consisted strictly of a base pay amount and the company's standard insurance plan. We discussed what the decision point would be (answer "Yes" if equal to or greater than this amount, "No" if less than this amount, "Talk to Spouse" if between the two).
Instead; I received an offer of base salary, plus 10% perfomance bonus, plus company car (not a Saab). The base salary is equal to our previously identified "No" point, the value of the total package (using the company's stated taxable value of the car) is approximately equal to the "Yes" point and my present salary. New benefits are not quite as good but more on that later.
We have never had a company provided car before (with gas and unlimited personal use per telephone conversation) so our ability to analyze this offer is hindered by our lack of experience.
Are there any "gotchas" based upon taxes or other unknowns that I need to factor into our decision that are not disclosed above?
I will be retiring from my present company with over 30 years seniority and some continuation of present benefits (as well as the ability to immediately draw a reduced pension to complement the new salary and/or invest for future permanent retirement). I believe there is some room to negotiate the salary upwards too but need to be able to make a sound decision if the pay point is fixed.
What are the experiences of others faced with a similar situation?
I may have to soon change my posting name!
Thanks.
