They are fine Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Sun, 20 Jan 2008 06:19:09 In Reply to: How bad are Lexmark printers?, turrbo [Profile/Gallery] , Sat, 19 Jan 2008 20:12:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I got a similar Lexmark multi-function color printer for FREE when I bought my wife's computer several years ago. It always worked well except for the usual, well-known problems inherent in all inkjet printers, i.e. the ink cartridges dry out if not used, and get used up quickly if they are used. Operating costs per page are much higher than a laser printer. It never printed photographs very well, but that is not what it was intended for. Refilling the ink cartridges is painful at best, and not a sure thing if the dried-up ink is blocking the inkjets in the print head (like clogged fuel injectors).
After many sets of replacement cartridges ($$$), we bought a color laser printer, which are now available in the ~$200 - 250 range. I bought one that can be refilled with toner powder available online, and not protected by smart chips that prevent you from doing so. You can get a monochrome (black & white) laser printer in the $150 range.
As the Lexmark multifunction unit is no longer connected, I do miss the easily available copier and scanner functions occasionally. If I had more room available, I would hook it up just for the scanner.
