don't count on it to last very long. Lexmarks are the ultimate disposable printers. I had one and it was dreadful.
It was one of the free ones that came with a computer, and in 3 years it never really worked well. One of the cartridges--usually cyan-- would The cartridges would always die with 1/4 to 1/3 of the ink left. The heads clogged all the time, event though there are new heads with every ink cartridge. Total junk!
It didn't matter if I used Lexmark ink and heads or another brand, the machine simply never worked well. It wasn't just me, others with Lexmark had the same problems. Guess there's a reason the company isn't profitable.
Epsons are much better (different head technology and better inks), but you are still saddled with the outrageous prices of ink, which is a total ripoff.
You have to look at the overall cost of all these small printers, what's called the TCO, or Total Cost of Ownership, which includes the ink or toner you buy over the life of the machine, or even in a given year. A color laser can print full color pages--a mix of text and graphics (they aren't really meant for photos) at about 10-13 cents a page. An inkjet device runs about 3-5 times that. When you look at having to pay $50 to $75 to replace all four color cartridges on an inkjet, and know you'll only get maybe 200 pages, that is not a good deal. A typical color laser will give you over 1500 pages for under $200. When you see the big picture there's no contest.
For $300-400 these days, you can get a really nice color laser for general use. $200 for black-and-white. If you want to print photos at home, get one of the little Epson or HP photo printers. Epson has better, more durable ink than the HPs, and better head technology. Kodak has nice stuff too and their machines have more flexibility, but also cost more.
I make part of my living in this industry and inkjet and laser will be duking it out for some time yet. Inkjet will probably win overall, but it's still too expensive for a lot basic printing.
What do I use? A Xerox color laser is my everyday printer. I have a Kodak inkjet multi-function that scans and does a nice job with photos for about 10 cents each at 4x6".
