I got married in Cape Elizabeth (just south of Portland) and we honeymooned in Bar Harbor. I think you could spend the entire 2 weeks there if you like the outdoors. Bar Harbor is unique for the east coast with mountains and the sea. Friends describe it as like Vancouver Island. Mount Dessert Island is also neat in that there are small tourist towns inside a National Park. Bring a bike if you have one. You can take the Cat to Nova Scotia as well.
The Schoodic Peninsula is very cool as well. Big waves and very few crowds. There's a loop that takes you to the Acadia Park section and loops north and back to US 1. There's small fishing towns where the tide is 12-15 feet. At low tide, the boats are totally dry with docks way above them.
Around Portland, check out the Great Lost Bear for beers. There are a lot of small ethnic places as well. Go to Coffee By Design for great coffee, they roast their own beans at one of them. Just south of Portland is 2 Lights, scenic lighthouse and great lobster pound. Another place with amazing waves and a granite shelf for them to pound. For lobster rolls go to the Falmouth town landing, a great little general store. Take them up to Winslow Park in Freeport for dining on the water. Harraseeket in Freeport is nice as well. LL Bean runs very cheap starter outdoor activities, $10 for an hour of sea kayaking, fly fishing, archery, etc.
You'll have a great trip!
