Every thing you read, from Consumer Reports to Car and Driver, talks about what extraordinary machines come out of Honda and Toyota. Take this line out of this week's NYTimes, for example: "IT seems unreal to be considering the Chevrolet Malibu as an alternative to such world-class cars as the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, but it has happened." World class? By what standards? When the journalists are blinded by boringness, we all get bombarded with their skewed perceptions.
I've got this friend--smart guy, researches everything he purchases, wouldn't dream of owning a Schwinn or an off-the-shelf computer--and he buys Accord after Accord after Accord, all because his research tells him they are the standard by which all other cars should be judged. Even after singing the praises of my 9-5 on a 1200 mile trip we took, his next car was another Accord because "the older ones have all been good cars."
