To some, it is a business or they change jobs.
My first Saab salesman, a late 40-ish man, left to sell Mercedes Benz' about a year or two later. He taught me how to drive a stick, which I got for my second Saab. Several years later, the dealer dropped Saab. The dealer's service writer and one mechanic that I remember stayed there 3 years before I moved.
My second Saab dealer disappeared (DeBrecht Saab Nissan of Webster Grove, near St. Louis). I got my car serviced at an indy who is runs his own shop years later. He once gave something free to me. The carpet was getting wet so he squeezed the AC tube in the wheel well, saw a rush of water, cleaned some debris, and done!
My third Saab salesman, a 40-ish man, left after a year, don't know where. The dealer is still there.
My fourth Saab salesman, a 30-ish man, left after a few months to sell real estate. The dealer is still there but my car is still fairly new.
A family member bought another brand from another salesman. 4 years later, he was still there. A few years later, he was gone.
Bottom line...salesmen seem to only last 1-2 years.
