You're lucky to get 14 years out of something!

I've been in my house for 7.5 years and I'm on my second fridge, the drier has been fixed once, and I'm told the washer needs to be replaced if we want to do more than 2/3 of a load in it. My Dishwasher after 5 years, the drain pipe cracked and I had to fix that myself.

At work, we have dual split system airconditioner systems of 7 y.o. vintage. This story is why we have two. On one, an instruction or spec sheet document came unglued from inside the airhandler, got stuck in the squirrelcage blower blades, causing it to spin off balance, causing the motor mount to fail, and the motor mount isn't available without the motor (because the mount never fails!), so now we have a new motor and mount because a piece of paper came loose. It also has a new drain pan because the old one cracked and leaked multiple times all over the second floor.

For you, it could be a loose electrical lead, a failing capacitor, bearing... Disconnect the motor mechanically and observe how it works with no load if you can. Fixed speed AC motors tend not to have brushes. There are also lots of good appliance fixing forums/help sites on the Internet. If you can't fix it, remind yourself that new appliances tend to be noticably more energy efficient in these past few years.
