lol, all very true. It is subjective. 9, though... just seems too young to fly solo in NYC. I don't care what year it is. As SJohnB asks, though, is there really a magic number? And no, I don't think there is. And yes, it does depend on the kid. I dunno, though... something about a 9 year old kid walking around NYC alone scares the crap out of me. Maybe 12 at the youngest? It all seems so arbitrary... I guess in the end it all comes down to a judgment call made by the parent. So long as that parent exercises some judgment in making that call... (never a given).
