If you read many of the other general automotive discussion sites or financial columns, Saab is not considered essential to GM's future. Many (most?) respondents are suggesting that GM get rid of it one way or another.
On the other hand, it's been argued in a thread below and often in the past that Saab's customer base is among the more affluent, educated, loyal etc. and it's in GM's interest to keep them on board as much as possible.
That argument may not wash with many bloviators/prognosticators, who argue that the numbers of Saabisti are not enough to make any difference whether they're part of the GM customer base or not.
So if GM were to dump or kill off Saab--
Would you consider another GM marque (Saturn? Cadillac? other?) in the wake of that, or would you definitely shop outside of the corporation? If GM loses its Saab customers, would it make a difference to their bottom line or viability in the future.
Would GM even notice?
