So many issues, so little time...

I might buy another GM brand. If they dump Saab it's a business decision. As the line in the Godfather goes, "It's not personal... It's business."
As for what to get, I won't know 'til the time comes, but I've had European cars almost exclusively for 40 years. Be hard to switch. I'd probably consider VW but would more likely go with something from Mazda or Nissan. BMWs and Mercedes are ridiculously overpriced and Volvos are too bland for my tastes.
Whatever happens, I think over the next 5-10 years people are going to make their car-buying decisions differently. I think we'll see more small cars used for commuting/local stuff and middle size cars/wagons for trips. Our auto mix will look more like Europe's.
As for GM, I can see more blending of platforms and powertrains. A Saab/Saturn mixing seems like a logical step. GM is no doubt looking at every option. Even if they close down the brand (as opposed to selling it) they still have to support it for some years due to warranty requirements, etc., but I doubt it would be closed down. It is an asset and someone will buy it. An Asian (Hyundai would be my guess), or possibly VW, which wants to be the #2 automaker in the world. They have quite a mix of cars now, some quite different, and Saab may fit. Or Tata, which may want to build an empire.
Just my $0.02.
Noel
