If Fiat or Peugeot buy Saabs with the same intent of GM, they too will fail. GM wants to make mass market Saabs and it is learning that it isnt enough to "automobubblize" a Saab to compete in the well establish upscale strata that Bimmers and Lexuses float.

If a company can figure out how to allow the trolls in Trollhatten to what they do best, while retaining the uniqueness of the cars but giving them greater stylist appeal. Niche success will likely be realized. Once only need look at the '98-02 9-3 styling as a starting point.

Park Slope, Brooklyn, is a good place to gauge Saab sales. In the 80s and 90s Saabs were everywhere. Likewise, the samething was seen with the '98-02 9-3s. Driving around Park Slope today, there are as many Saabs to be found. In all likelihood, it is for the same reason that I will leave Saab when the time come to get a new car -- they are now just another car.
