That's another option I am considering........ I compared two on-line PC buiding sites for their recommended components in a Home PC. The cost to build it myself is equal to or slightly more than buying a pre-assembled system. Now if I wanted a "God Box" for heavi-duty gaming, the price advantage to build it myself is awesome!
Our exisitng system was custom built at a local Mom & Pop VAR store to my specs. I got a less expensive and better machine 6 years ago by doing this as opposed to buying a pre-assembled machine. Times have changed, maybe due to cheap labor in developing countries.
I am also considering re-building our existing machine. New MB, processor, power supply, memory, hard-drive, and video card may total less than a pre-built system. All I would be saving is the case, CD and DVD drives, keyboard, and mouse. Not a lot of opportunity for saving money but a holiday project.
