because my wife runs her own cookery school and stores a lot of food. We live in a country village and there's a good chance a cow will push a pole over at some point during the winter. The generator will power all the fridges and freezers, plus the kitchen lighting and our central heating pump (heating fuel is oil).
We had permanent wiring set up but you have to physically unplug appliances from the "mains" supply and plug into the generator-supplied circuits alongside. We also have a couple of security lights hooked up so there is always some load for the generator if it is started.
Next step is to see if we can have hydro power - the house is an old water-mill with a permanent water-fall from the sluice gate out of the mill-pond.
