And the biggest trick is to get it down to the fish quickly, so weighted lines here in the Great Lake streams. I have caught one steelie on a 'dry'. Threw a Sparrow in the Fall, and a steelie did a perfect sipping rise and took it before the leader was dragged under.
Atlantics are supposed to be tough! Neat you got a chance at them.
The new synthetics, even aluminum, are so much easier than the old wood/canvas. But not as neat. But those old guys weighed around a hundred pounds, and the new kevlar types can weigh 30lbs. So much easier to throw on the roof. Just not in my budget. The Penobscot in lightweight-55lb I think- Royalex goes for around $1k. Half or a third the cost of the 30lb versions in high tech, and more durable.
And who said anything about Buicks??? Lots of us old geezers who like Saabs. Just trying to figure if 75lbs of canoe would be easy for you to throw up on the Saab by yourself for the next 20 years. Which is why I'm thinking lighter....
