The auto-darkening helmets are instantaneous, meaning you will get zero welders flash when using one.
It's hard for me to comment on brands that I have not used before, but I have nothing but good things to say about Lincoln. About a dozen years ago I bought a close-out British made model from a local store. It worked OK for a year or two, but when I went to find new tips for it, I was SOL(they were non-standard). I had extra money at the time, so I went with Lincoln < been around over 100 years, so I had no fear of not being able to buy replacement parts if need be. I've had the Lincoln since 1997, and have had zero problems with it, and I've used it ALOT the past 6 years.
I would consider scouring evilbay for a welder and a helmet. A search for mig welder brings up 1000 items.
Lots of big name brands to choose from: Lincoln, Hobart, Miller, Clarke, Campbell-Hausfeld, Century, ESAB......
Some MIG welders are advertised as "ready to use", but from what I've seen, none of them come with a bottle of gas < that'll be an extra expense.
Flux-core wire welders are pretty much take out of the box, plug in, install spool of wire, strike an arc,
