Acquiring a set of tools can be an expensive undertaking, especially if you insist on new.
As an alternative, peruse what might be available on eBay and Craig's List in your area. Carefully research the cost of a new equivalent. My rule of thumb is to not exceed 30% - 50% of the new price. Also, stick to the known labels.....S-K, Matco,Snap-On, etc. Others who post here may have other favorites they might share.
If you get a quality brand it likely will have a lifetime warranty, so if you get a broken SnapOn tool you'll be able to obtain a new one under the warranty; I did this once with a misrepresented tool on eBay.
You'll find that it's not hard to spend several hundred dollars just getting started; but, good tools are a lifetime investment.
A final thought.....invest in a good tool chest, and lock up your tools at night, or else they will start disappearing. A chat with an experienced tech wold probably help.
