If you are truly serious about persuing this, then you should definately go with snap-on or matco. I currently am in the process of upgrading all my old crapsman stuff with snap-on. Craftsment will work however when you use them every day you get sick of sockets slipping, and fasteners rounding off. Snap-on has a budget line called Blue-Point, which has a number of great starter sets, pricier then craftsman but lots nicer as well.
Get a nice rechargeable flashlight I like the streamlight stinger
If you are just starting out, you may want to look at electric power tools versus pneumatic Similar performance, higher price, but much more convenient to not have to use a air line.
Make sure you are positively going to make this a life career before you invest.
I currently spend about $500 a month on tools, and I am a shop manager, not a tech. However I do tons of side work at the house, all profits from side jobs go to tools and tool storage,
Definately get a nice box, and lock it
