According to CNN, Pontiac outsells Buick about 2:1, but is not profitable. Why this is I have no idea, given that Buick buyers are aging and dying off, with the exception of those in China. And Pontiac caters to a younger audience who (gasp) want to buy American.
My prediction (worth just you pay for it!) is that Buick models will eventually be absorbed into Chevy as the highline, larger cars and Chevy will be the smaller and mid-size cars. That way Buick as a brand could be maintained in China but the car lines would be streamlined here in the US.
It does seem, though, that under the Chevy badge there could be small and mid-size cars up through Malibu size; larger more luxurious cars from the Buick line-up; and even a performance line from Pontiac, like the G8.
But that would make at least some sense, something GM never does.
