If you are staying Oahu the entire time you should rent a car, but you won't need it for the entire time. a weekly rental may be most cost effective. Look for lots with weekly rates - they may be closer to the canal.

We visited Pearl Harbor and it's well worth it, but it does take a long time by bus. They have vans that leave from Waikiki but for the price you may as well rent a car. Diamond Head is a nice walk, but consider a baby backpack to get to the summit.

I recommend the Bishop Museum because it will help you understand Hawaii's history. Visit the Iolani Palace - Steve McGarret's office on Hawaii 5-0! - for the same reason. It's closed on sunday and monday. There's an art museum that we did not get to visit in Honolulu that looked good. We also didn't get to see Doris Duke's Shangrila because it was closed...Yes to Hanauma bay and North shore.

Wear SPF50 fellow New Englander!!!

There's a zoo and a park near the Diamond Head end of Waikiki.

You'll have a great time no matter what you do!
