A local talk show radio host told a story of when he was playing golf at an upscale country club in Florida. He ran into a group of youngish players (40's) and asked what they did. They were all retired NYC cops, full pensions, and set for life.
Now multiply this by three generations. For every state worker, New York is probably paying full benefits for one, maybe two, additional retired workers. This is just one of New York's many problems.
GM has the same problem. Tell me, where's the incentive for someone to keep working if, after 20 years, they can retire and still pull in the same amount of money, and move somewhere warm where the taxes are lower to boot?
