What are they talking about??? Posted by Larry West [Email] (#1140) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Larry West) on Mon, 31 Aug 2009 07:32:27 In Reply to: New 9-5 pics, Ross, Thu, 27 Aug 2009 16:29:47 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
"Since splitting from GM, Saab has promised to take a new, more Scandinavian direction and the new 2010 Saab 9-5 is the first step."
Let's see, the split happened, tentatively officially (pending final financing...), what, 3-4 WEEKS ago? And Koenigsegg designed and engineered a whole new car in that time frame?
Yeah, right...
(It's no wonder the general public is confused about the lineage of that car in their driveway, when the so-called experts can be so wrong...)
"Given their ownership by the company-that-shall-not-be-pronounced (Koenigsegg), it was expected that we'd see something exciting out of the brand and this is certainly different — even if a lot of this was designed and prepared under GM's supervision. "
A lot of this? Whatchoo talkin 'bout, Willis? The WHOLE THING was designed, engineered and built under the GM umbrella. Now I'm not one to automatically infer that means this 9-5 is going to be a poor effort for the Saab brand, but this seems like a whole lot of spin-doctoring to me. If any Saab that was introduced since 1993 should be called a "GM Saab", it should be this one...
Besides, weren't the first shots leaked before the Koenigsegg deal was inked?
I like most of what I see in the new 9-5. I'm still on the fence about the dash treatment and the headrests for the front seat, but other than that, I do like it. Also, I noticed in the pics of the lighter color cars the "wraparound" windshield treatment, blacking out the A pillars on the outside. Interestingly, that treatment was proposed for the original 9-5. There's a shot of a model with that treatment in the book "Saab 9-5 A Personal Story".
