includes a 5 year technology sharing agreement. To me this means that we will probably continue to see GM platforms under SAABs for at least the next 5 years. Long enough for a next gen 9-3 and possibly a 9-1(?). IMHO, that ain't all bad. The 9-3SS seems to competitive chassis wise and the few reports on the new 9-5 are very positive. The Opel Insignia is getting rave reviews and shares a platform with the new 9-5. This will allow SAAB time to 1) SAABify the platforms more than they were allowed to under GM and 2) Pay out little in development costs initially. If they continue to buy (or collaborate on) platforms from other companies (i.e. SAAB 9000, Lancia Thema, etc.), they could make a profit on less sales than they would if they had to develop the platforms themselves. I think that ultimately the reason that they sold themselves to GM in the first place was platform development became more and more expensive and they didn't have the resources to continue to do it one their own.
