>>if they got a series hybrid a la Volvo Recharge out asap<<
I work for a lithium-ion battery company developing prototype power cells for EV, HEV and PHEV's. Believe me - there is no such thing as ASAP when it comes to developing a viable automotive electrical power plant. GM may sell the Volt for $40K but it's going to cost them nearly twice that much to make. Lithium-ion is the way to go (guess you could argue hydrogen fuel cells but that's a topic for another day) but last thing Saab needs right now is to sell cars at a negative margin.
Honestly - if Saab continued to make the post 2004 95 or current 93 I'd buy a used one every 4 years for the next 20 years. Each year it would become a little more uniqe in this world of cookie cutter cars. Problem is buying preowned like most of have done. Somebody has to put that new car on the road. But I guess the US consummer isn't satisfied with a quality design that doesn't evolve every couple of years - even though the industry wide result seems to be homoginization of automobile design. Part of me is hoping China gets the current tooling, don't degrade the current quality, and eventually exports them to the US!
