I've noticed this as well. Filled up with Citgo 93 (only choice at the time) and the car was noticeably more sluggish. I have good luck with Shell and Mobil 1/Exxon, so I try to stick with them. This was 93; I can't imagine el-cheapo 87. The cars are designed to run "any" octane, but when you run 87 the ecu will severely limit boost pressure to prevent pre-ignition. I have a VERY hard time believing you wouldn't notice a difference. You're certainly right, for the extra $3 per tank, it's worth it.
