not to start a "which saab is better" thread... there are pros + cons of each model, but CMyles is a regular on the c900 board, + I believe he is comparing pre-1990 models with post 1990 models. The handling of a c900 is distinctly better than the NG900/9-3 as is the build quality. fwiw, I have noticed differences in build quality in the pre + post 1990 c900s (as have others)... 1989 was a golden year!
It seems the newer cars are more reliable (at least for their young age), but that is not everything. Parts are not as beefy + when they do break, they can be significantly more expensive. Good example is the changes of the oil pump + screen 9000 to 9-5 (that screen being one of the aggravating factors in the sludge monster). Certainly my saab indy prefers to work on the classics + has pointed out a few significant mechanical issues in the 9-3ss. They are full of GM, and to many, that is a negative... still good cars, but comparatively to some, not as great...
even wrt seats... I got to do back to back 1000 mile drives in a 2004 9-5 Arc and 1989 900s... the 9-5 seats are very good (no complaints), but the 900 seats are just a little bit more comfortable! never mind the higher grade of leather...
