I think it really is just a matter of us being accustomed to using Fahrenheit for temperature in daily life. Think about it...when the mercury drops below zero in the dead of winter, how is that really so different than temps in the teens or single digits? Even though it "seems" super-cold to us, the zero point is pretty much meaningless (it's apparently based on the temperature at which a certain brine mixture stabilizes). On the other hand, if it drops below zero Celsius, you immediately know you'd better be watching out for ice on the roads.
I spent a semester studying in continental Europe...much like learning a language, you get used to it quickly when you're immersed in that environment. It doesn't take long for you to make the connection that 25 degrees Celsius makes for a pretty nice day out!
