I usually had imported cars (VW, Datsun) so mine were all metric.

But when my dad had a mid-80-ish Ford Escort, it drove him absolutely nuts where he was working on one thing - it was metric - then another thing was inches. Didn't even seem to make sense like engine vs/ everything else. It was mixed all over.
