reality is, even in the US, all the length standards are done in metric. conversions take place at some point (most likely gauge block calibrations) so you can have a ruler in inches etc... aside from trickle down effects in engineering (which can be a big deal, eg in cars!), none of it really matters in a sense in fields that are imprecise (eg carpentry), except that it would be convenient if everything was the same world-wide (eg if you use 18mm MDF in a project like kitchen cabinets, where everything else is in inches, you have to be careful not to assume it's 3/4" or stuff won't fit)... but some things aren't likely to change! (never mind that a 2x4 isn't 2" by 4" anyway)... even in Canada...
and of course you can use fractions in metric + decimals in imperial... that's a separate issue...
You are correct that F is more precise than C graded as integers, but it's still the same height on the thermometer, and the accuracy is the same, and in most cases (consumer thermometers) +/- 1degree C at best... so in the end, it doesn't matter... it's funny, I'm used to Celcius - zero makes sense because it defines when stuff freezes. What you think makes sense in farenheit makes no sense to me... it's all what you get used to... I have no idea what 80 degrees is like... I do know that C + F cross somewhere down around -40, and both are frigging cold!!
