When I bought my car last December (2008) they put a set of new Nexen N7000 tires on it. I have put 17k miles on the car, and probably about 12k were with the Nexens. Last night I switched to the Nexens from my snow tires and noticed they are WORN! After 12k miles!? This will probably be the last summer I get out of them safely. Poking around a bit I found that there is a UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grade) rating. But Tirerack's explanation of the rating confuses the hell out of me.
"A grade of 100 would indicate that the tire tread would last as long as the test tire, 200 would indicate the tread would last twice as long, 300 would indicate three times as long, etc."
My Nexens have a rating of 360 AA A. Does the 360 indicate that they suck? I see tires on Tirerack with UTQG's as high has 600. The next set of tires I buy will most likely not be all-seasons, because I've got dedicated winters (Toyo's, which are wearing beautifully, by the way). Thanks for any help!
