Are you also saying that things would have been better if FDR had done nothing with the economy, like the New Deal, that actually put people to work? What do you think should have been done? (hindsight always being 20:20)
As for WW II, the U.S. had an isolationist policy for some years and was not inclined to get directly involved until Pearl Harbor. Up until then it was largely the English standing alone against the Axis powers, both in Europe and Asia. The U.S. was in a supply role, much of it via the Lend-Lease Program, but was not fighting. Churchill and FDR talked often, with Churchill all but begging FDR for U.S. commitment, but FDR resisted until Pearl Harbor. We weren't building lots of tanks, liberty ships, bombers, bombs, M1s, P-47s, etc, until after Dec. 7, 1941.
And it was an economic depression, not prosperity, that helped the Axis powers gain traction in Europe.
