Good points... what concerns me is that the deutsche marks' value in WWII was devalued drastically by all the money the German's printed almost to the point of being worthless. If the US (and the EU) do the same, won't history repeat itself?

On a similar note, didn't NZ as a country default on their financial obligations back in the 80's, having dire consequences for their citizens?
