the accident" is the typical excuse for using used vs. new parts on an older car. The insurance company' s obligation is to make you whole, not to improve your car with new parts. That said, many body shops are not big fans of used sheetmetal parts that are visible, as they need to be stripped, sanded, repaired, primed, etc., before installation - and they are the ones facing the customer at the end of the repair job, ultimately responsible for the quality of the work performed and the longevity of the repair.
