It was a mixture of mostly body and a couple of mechanical parts. Car was bumped on driver side front fender / nose. They installed a used hood, left front fender and headlight assembly. New front bumper skin & brace and some internal engine bay pieces.
As someone else stated that the insurance company's job is to make the vehicle whole, they are not, at least in Pennsylvania, required to use all new parts. They would be be able to use all new parts on a current production vehicle, but on older cars, this is just not possible to do.
In a prior life, I sold insurance and have some experience in this department. I had, no idea where it is at this point, a breakdown of differnt spare parts groups, that the vehicle manufacturers kept in stock after they stopped producing a particular model. Federal law requires them to maintain a spare part diminishing inventory. By that I mean that the longer the term since last vehicle came off the line, the lower quantity of inventory they were required to keep. The time frames do vary depending on the particular group. Then there are numerous types of exclusions and exemptions that the vehicle mfgs use to their advantage and to reduce their inventory levels. Please note that this could all have been changed by updates to various federal laws over the years.
