I fly about 70K-100K miles a year and recently came back from London Heathrow, where before I even checked in to my AA flight home, I got a round of questions from a third party agency trying to trip me up. I was able to answer every question and thus got the smile and was told to go through.

It reminds me of traveling into Tel Aviv, which I've now down three times. Granted, the first time I went through 90 minutes of searches due to a crack in my laptop (but that was right after a suicide bomb in Tel Aviv several weeks before). The Israeli's have it down to a science, but it is psychological profiling, not physical testing. Unfortunately, the TSA aren't paid enough or trained enough to be anywhere near as good. Nothing is perfect...in fact I was on the TSA Watch list for the better part of three years, which made traveling for my job a royal pain in the a$$, with extra screening and double checking of my ID, boarding pass, etc. That was proof enough that their techniques were highly flawed.

The new scanners take a good 10-20 secs per person and slow the process down, but it's part of life. I'd rather go through that than the invasive pat down, to be honest.

Security will never be perfect...it will be adjusted as more people cause issues, as well as when people complain (such as now), and we will all have to endure the changes.
