presently in the armed forces or have already done their national service and are working for a security firm at the airport. They are trained to do the work and in what to look for. When I've been there I've had a letter from the company I was visiting saying I was legit, but I still go through much of the process. They watch you, they look at your eyes a lot, they evaluate behavior. And most bags get thoroughly inspected. It takes longer, but is not nearly as annoying as the U.S. processes. Plus they are reasonably friendly and courteous.

I'm not sure Israel's process is scalable to the U.S. due to the vastly higher volume of passengers we have. But if we had a really efficient and fully implemented process for vetting frequent travelers and letting them go through quickly--bypassing the milling hordes--it would reduce the load on the TSA weenies.
