Saw the below blurb this morning. Found it interesting that Kia timing belts are alleged to have failed so early.
KIA SUED OVER ALLEGED BAD TIMING BELTS AND REFUSAL TO REPLACE
A putative class action in federal court in Camden alleges that Kia installed shoddy timing belts in its 2004 Rio cars, leading to engine damage that the manufacturer would not pay to remedy. The suit, Latraverse v. Kia Motors America Inc., seeks class certification for 37,599 buyers of the subcompact, manufactured in sedan and hatchback body styles. The plaintiffs allege that Kia refused to fix the problem when owners presented their cars to the manufacturer for covered repairs. The lead plaintiff, Sean Latraverse, bought a new 2004 Rio from a Kia dealer — which was covered by the carmaker's 10-year/100,000-mile extended warranty — but in August 2009, the engine failed, necessitating a replacement, which Kia refused to pay for, according to the suit.
