and simply wasn't done there's not much of a case. However, if lots of belts and engines were dying *before* the specified service interval there could be a case. Otherwise the plaintiffs are probably SOL.
Now it could be that Kia was trying to extend the service interval for belt change and lost the gamble. Or that the parts supplier made a bunch of bad belts.
OR dealers were saying the belts were OK. That happens. My erstwhile Saab dealer refused to change the serp belt on my 9-5 wagon at 60K saying it didn't need it, even though that's when it's due to be changed. By 70K I stopped asking and had my indy do it.
