I'm a new smartphone adopter. My son has had his for about a year. He had a Droid phone. We just came up on renewal, so I upgraded my standard phone to a Droid-X and my son got the iPhone. I liked the slightly bigger screen and keypad on the Droid. I just turned 50 and the eyes ain't what they used to be.

About a week before we went to get our phones, I was at a conference about designing websites for smartphones--I'm a web designer. The speaker--PPK--is the world's foremost expert on smartphone technology. His opinion is that the Droids offer the best web experience--best browser. Apple being Apple, there stuff is proprietary and they'll likely catch up. But for now, Droid is king.

If you use Skype, forget the iPhone. It's non-compatible and has it's own program. Great if everybody you know has an iPhone or a Mac. iPhones of course have iTunes integration. An important feature for my son. The Droids can store and play music, but iTunes is a better program.

We are a Mac family, and I still went Droid based on how I plan to use it. Be prepared to charge your battery daily no matter which way you go. I have an app called Juice Defender on my Droid which shuts off apps that usually run in the background to save my battery.

We are Verizon subscribers, and we are both happy with the phones we picked. (They both can play Angry Birds after all ;-D) About the only issue I've had with my phone is that you have to swipe-unlock the phone and click (or sometimes swipe) the answer button to answer a call. Way more trouble than just opening my flip phone like I used to.
