I've had all three major brands. TomTom (my current unit) and Garmin are pretty close. I give a slight edge to TomTom because I like their implementation of Lane Assist.
Magellan is the only one I didn't like. Twice in one trip it told me to turn where there wasn't a road, and too often it gave the voice turn instruction when I was in the middle of the intersection.
YMMV.
