I think there's a disproportionate group of used car buyers here because it is a problem solving forum... we're interested in fixing things + have things to fix, partly because we bought used... of course some buy new + hold for a long time also (and therefore need fix to stuff)... sporadic long term new car buyers are probably no more helpful to the brand than regular used car buyers... the used car buyers provide a market for the leased cars... where the money really is...
SU seems to have many more new car buyers/leasers + I think there are loyalists in that regard also...
those of us who buy used still have an interest in what is going on now, as you say, I'm interested in the 2013 models even if I'm more likely to buy one in 2017... I'm also interested in the 2010 9-3X someone's gonna trade in to get their 2013 model...
used car owners like myself probably spend more on parts than a new car owner and that helps...
but I agree, new car sales are critical to the brand's future...
