I had just finished pumping up the spare in March, which is what prompted me to post my first message wondering about its lifetime. After mounting the tire I stopped at the first opportunity and topped up the pressure to 60 PSI. Based on how little air I put in, I would say it had at least 50 PSI in it when I mounted the tire.
I am pretty sure the deterioration is not just UV, otherwise all tires would stay fresh in the warehouse forever. I think exposure to heat and oxygen, and especially ozone, factor into the equation. Long chain polymers are temporary items. I just threw out some 25 year old nylon cable ties that hadn't been used, but were so brittle that they would snap if bent 90 degrees. Likewise, the foam in the C900 and 9000 headliners never see the light of day, but we all know what happens to it after about 10 years.
