That's because you need a different technique for getting an AWD off the line fast. On a powerful FWD car and to a lesser degree a RWD car, you can't just mash the throttle to the floor. You have to feather it to avoid too much wheelspin.
However, in an AWD you basically firewall the throttle and let go of the clutch. Hard on the drivetrain, but it gets you moving quickly. If you don't get the revs up enough before letting go of the clutch, you bog down. People usually don't like to punish their cars like this, so in normal driving don't get near as good 0-60 times...
