Re: the previous thread. I'd gotten a best of 22 mpg in my large, heavy, unaerodynamic, non-Saab vehicle by keeping the speed at 70mph. So I thought I'd try 68 mph. On the trip there, on a hot day (90 degrees) I only got 21 mpg. On the trip back I got a whopping 25.5 mpg! It was cool, so I didn't have the ac on. But I think the biggest factor was the wind. We tend to have wind out of the west the vast majority of the time. It was pretty windy both days so on the east bound trip it apparently made quite a difference. It's the only explantion I can think of since I drove exactly the same speed each way. I doubt the AC could make that much difference. I have to imagine it makes a bigger difference in a car shaped like a brick. Anyone else have any ideas? FYI on a 180 mile trip the difference in speed only made about 10 minutes difference in elapsed time. Apparently there is more in terms of MPG to be had. Now I'm wondering what 65 would do along with some drafting. Unfortunately my wife's patience level has reached it's limit so I may never know. All calculations are figured on gas consumed verses miles, not the trip computer.
