I was going to say exactly the same thing--the thing that will break will be the one thing you don't have. The real problem with going to a place like Alaska is you could end up getting stranded for weeks waiting for parts. Hotels/motels are scarce during the season (they have 3 months to make their year and NO excess capacity) and charge top buck--if you can even find one. You could end up spending many thousands waiting/getting parts and could find yourself in a situation where it exceeds the value of the car. You're going to be driving 10-12K miles, a years worth of driving in a couple of weeks--how much would normally go wrong in that time period? It's all fine when you have a trusted mechanic around the corner and every part you need. You're on vacation, you want to have fun not spend your time in some hole in the wall getting hosed by some mechanic who's probably never seen a Saab before. Personally I'd rather take someone else's (rental) car.
