You guys are great! I appreciate your efforts.
Lots of followups:
The two pumps I have in the one hole have staggered switches so only one runs at first. They're on different 1.5 inch exhaust pipes with new check valves. The pipes run 10ft from the foundation towards the street.
My cellar is at the water table of the small river that runs about 100ft from my house, That distance is enough to not worry on a daily basis, but water moves up the table fast when its been raining. Its not from roof drainage...They're all piped away pretty far, and its not coming from the walls.
The Hole where the furnace is is a foot deep, 3 days old, and no water. the normal sump has 2 inches, 24 inches deep. I figure that if I don't fill it with cement, it'll fill with water when it floods, which may mean that it'll spill over regardless of how well the other sump hole is working to clear the water (its 7 feet away).
Problem with filling it in with cement is that I may want to put in another sump...hence the questions this morning.
I'm amidst my 3rd 5 gallon cement-waterproofing paint in the midst of the first winter project, good stuff!
The Alarm on the new pump is going to be wired upstairs soon.
The Battery sump pumps? wow. that's hard core and makes sooo much sense. damn. Zoeller? OK.
Side note: I used to live in a house that had a RIVER running under it...50ft directly down slope a 5gal/min stream emerged. The sump pipes used to get filled, but not clear (vacuum)...so I drilled a hole that released the vacuum and it sounded like the house was taking a bong hit every time! it was so satisfying.
