Some "lifers" at a couple of clients have taken packages and moved on, some have been shifted laterally because they wouldn't drink the KoolAid and then left. Some who bailed have done well, others, not so much. Seems to depend on where they land. They don't all choose wisely. And the ones who were empty suits, well... some things don't change.
My point earlier was that a lot of well-established (older) companies don't seem to encourage much more than linear thinking, and will dump experienced people to cut costs. Compare that with new companies like Google or Facebook (or even Apple) which *expect* innovation and outside the box thinking. Some of the older ones will get it right, others won't.
Personally, I do know that one of the reasons I don't fit in most corporate cultures is that I push the boundaries. That works when I go in as a consultant --it's what they are buying-- but it generally doesn't work as an employee.
